Cocktail ring

Cocktail jewellery emerged as a trend in the 1920s during the height of the Art Deco era, the era of Prohibition in America, and a time when women struggled to have their rights recognised. This time period saw a fusion of trends in art, architecture, and fashion, reflecting the gradual changes in society. At the heart of these events were illegal cocktail parties, where women showcased the latest fashion trends.

One such trend was the introduction of expressive jewellery with coloured gemstones set in maximalist settings. Rings fit perfectly into these daring yet elegant forms. The richly decorated designs seen on the hands of female cocktail party attendees came to be known as cocktail rings, as women wore them on the hand holding their cocktail to express defiance against Prohibition laws. The cocktail ring symbolised liberation from oppressive regulations.

The unique origins of cocktail jewellery inspired the creation of an expressive ring in the Art Deco style. In the centre, two sapphires in yellow and pink are set opposite each other. They are wrapped by gold ribbons that flow seamlessly into the ring's band, complemented by small diamonds. The disciplined composition of the ring's centre contrasts with the seemingly randomly placed settings, encrusted with small tanzanites and sapphires. The play of colours alludes to the coming summer and the sun's warm rays. The whole piece was crafted in yellow gold.
